The Clacks Good Food Charter has a vision where Food in Clacks is
‘Good for Health: Where the food that keeps us healthy & well is affordable and accessible to all with dignity.‘
Established two years ago, Hawkhill Community Shop is committed to ensuring affordable and dignified access to healthy food for all.
For an annual membership fee of £5, local families can purchase kitchen essentials and fresh produce at subsidised prices.
The project is focussed on promoting dignity and self-worth, providing accessible support in response to community needs.
As a not-for-profit social enterprise, the shop reinvests its earnings into restocking the shop and strives to keep costs low.
The initiative has also created volunteering opportunities for adults with additional support needs and jobs for the long-term unemployed.
As part of a busy community centre, the shop also collaborates with the NHS Forth Valley nutritional team to offer family cookery classes that demonstrate creative recipes based around kitchen cupboard essentials.
